Constantly in Love, the second record from Kælan Mikla synth player and back-up singer Sólveig Matthildur, is an emotional, poetic, and breathtaking creation. From the light-hearted but dead serious first single and video (“Dystopian Boy”), to the medieval symmetry of the album’s construction (spoiler: it’s a massive envelope poem), Sólveig has, quite possibly, written album for the ages.
Channeling influences as varied as trip-hop pioneers Portishead, to black metal band Urfaust, to French post-punk chanteuse Hante, Sólveig’s sophomore album is one part darkwave, one part spoken art-poetry jams, and one part electronic downtempo compositions. Rolling Stone’s David Fricke likely put it best: after seeing Sólveig live, he called her “a tablet-age reincarnation of the post–Velvet Underground Nico.” Toronto-based Artoffact Records will release Constantly in Love on vinyl, CD, and digital format on April 19th, 2019. The album features guest appearances from Drab Majesty’s Deb Demure, post-punk solo artist Some Ember, and the digital version includes a bonus track remixed by Hante. Welcome to RetroCup, Iceland's first official bar retro gaming beer league! or "IFOBRGBL" for short!
Regardless of our love for modern gaming consoles, retro games are dear to a lot of us and that's why we decided to throw a monthly retro gaming competition. No emulators and no corners cut - we will offer these games on the very consoles they were originally designed for!
The first RetroCup competition of 2019 will be in "MARIO KART 64" on the classic Nintendo 64 console. Four competitors at a time will compete on the big screen, connected to one of the finest sound systems in any bar in Iceland. The last person standing wins the night.* Rewards to the top two competitors and the WINNER will be offered a place in the first All-Stars RetroCup competition in the end of the year! *Registration for the competition can be done here on the event page or by swinging by Gaukurinn. Those who sign-up are required to arrive an hour before the start of the competition or they will lose their spot.
